Have you ever had a dream to start a business doing what you love, but just don’t quite know where to start?

Do you have a passion for something in particular or an extensive amount of knowledge on a topic that you would love to share with others?

Do you doubt yourself that you perhaps are not good enough, or that you don’t compare to the rest of the business owners out there already killin’ it?

If you’ve answered YES to at least one of the questions above, then this “Turn your Passion into Profit” guide below will help you to move forward with building a successful business and overcoming all the hurdles you may face during the process.

With these 5 Steps below, we’ll guide you through some of our best tips to teach you how to eliminate all the negativity and obstacles you may be facing when considering turning your passion into profit.

Get really good at what you do.

The strong, powerful business leaders you see running businesses today? Well, they invested years of hustlin’ to get to where they are, and you have to too!  I am not putting a specific timeline on it, but it’s important to invest the time to become confident in the quality of your product or service offerings to your clients.

In order to run a business selling a product or service to a customer, you need to become an expert in the industry you are serving.  For example, if you are a self-taught photographer and wanting to start a Wedding Photography business.  You need to ensure you are the best Wedding Photographer you can be & that you have experience shooting weddings.  This doesn’t have to be a daunting part of the process, as it comes with time!  Trust the process, practice as much as you can, look for practice work, listen to endless podcasts, follow people you look up to who are doing the same thing, register to online courses (the list seriously can go on!).  If you are doing what you love, then it won’t feel like work anyways right!?

Pro-Tip:  Have you heard of Skillshare? I am blown away at this platform! Skillshare offers SO many courses taught by leading industry professionals on so many different topics from design, photography to finance and leadership (seriously, you name it, they probably have it!).

Believe in yourself.

The main hurdle for people starting a business is fear of failure…Seriously though, why are we so hard on ourselves!?

How can you fear something before you’ve even tried it?  To live a life of high achievement, you must fully believe in yourself and your ability to succeed.  Confidence my friends, it’s so powerful. The most successful business leaders today all believed in themselves and did whatever it took to achieve success.

Failures? You’ll definitely experience failures (some big, some small, some that you may cry over), but it’s your willingness to get up again and again that’s going to bring you success.  You just have to keep going.  As a business owner and in your everyday life, you need to understand that the only thing we can control is the present.  Fearing what may happen in the future, if you really think about it, is a waste of our time and emotions because all we can control is right here, right now.  If we manifest the positive energy and build momentum towards creating something we’ve dreamed of the reward will be there, it just takes time.

Start Practicing in Real-Life and begin building a Portfolio.

A lot of business owners often ask the following questions “who will even hire me if I have never worked with anyone before?”, “how am I going to get clients to begin with?”, or “why would someone want to work with me over my competitors?”

Something you may want to consider when starting out, is to offer your products or services at reduced rates or even for free. It’s just how you get started. It’s so important to build up your skills working in real-life situations to add more content or testimonials into your portfolio.  As you begin to build up clientele, you’ll begin to better understand your worth.

Understand that you have to put in work and time to get to where you want to be. Explain to people HOW you are going to help them, WHY they should hire you or WHY they should buy your product. If people are willing to pay you more for your products or services, great! But in order to build that trust, clients typically want to know how your product or services have helped others before taking a chance on you, and you need to build up that portfolio in order to have that positive impact on potential clients to want to work with you.

As time moves on, you will begin to collect a solid amount of back up support on your worth and word of mouth will begin to spread from your customers who have purchased your product or service… It’s like an on-going cycle that will only benefit you in the end!

Next, build a solid Brand that stands out.

Branding is so much more than the visuals of your business. It’s feeding into what your ideal audience craves, telling stories about your business and what it stands for, deciding on a logo, typography, colours and patterns that appeal and speak to your target market and showing up consistently and on brand.

Before you expose your business to the world, you need a solid Brand!  People need to know who you are, how you are going to help them, and why they should be working with you over your competitors. Defining your niche is also important to consider when building your brand.  Know your competitors and determine how you are different from them.  Consider bridging the gaps in the market and STAND OUT!

Once you have clearly defined your niche and what you’re all about, begin working with a Graphic Designer to help build a solid brand and brand strategy.  Ensure the graphic designer understands your vision, who you are and what your bizz is all about. Let them craft up their magic for you and build you out a solid branding strategy so you can get yourself out there, look a lot more legit #toolegittoquit, and start driving in those leads!
